In the suburbs of Manhattan, on Central Avenue in Yonkers, is a great Mexican restaurant. Surprisingly, it even surpasses many of the Mexican eateries in Los Angeles, a city I know intimately. The food we had was wonderful. The savory, marinated skirt steak melted in your mouth with every bite. The molé was well balanced, not overwhelming. The ingredients were all fresh. You won’t find canned, refried beans here. Get the fried banana for dessert. It's very nice.
I am so impressed, I can’t wait to go back for more-- and this is coming from someone who typically eats Mexican delights three times a week.
The trick here is to go during the week because they have a great happy hour. 2 for 1 drinks and they give you a great Mexican tapas platter which is full of flavor and not too greasy. If you live in southern Westchester and you want to win your date over with Mexican flavor, go to Rancho Grande. She will be pleased and hopefully you will be as well.
