Nestled in downtown Los Angeles is the Water Grill, one of the best seafood restaurants in Southern California. The cuisine is influenced by French, Asian, and Italian flavors with a Californian flare. Slow pouching cooking methods, suburb shellfish, a very cool dining room and friendly wait staff are some of the factors that make this a dead sexy restaurant.

For some reason (and it’s good) you won’t find a Hollywood crowd (celebs or wannabees) dinning at the Water Grill. Perhaps it’s too far away from the sanctuary of Beverly Hills and the Sunset Strip. Also most of Hollywood doesn’t have a clue how to eat anyway. Have you seen how many size zeros there are these days there? It’s epidemic. Instead bankers, lawyers, theatergoers, tourists and lovers flood the Water Grill.

Executive Chef David LeFevre changes the menu daily. The fresh oysters are amazing and the Blue and Dungeness Crab cake with harissa (it’s a hot paste of red chilies, garlic, other spices and olive oil), herbed cous cous and yogurt-lime cucumber sauce is to die for. One of the best entrees I have ever had in any restaurant is the slow poached Columbia River Sturgeon with roasted and pureed red beets, warm spinach and a horseradish celery sauce. It’s perfection!

After Melisse, the Water Grill is my second favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. Recently, it was awarded a one star Michelin Guide rating and I think it’s worthy of two. In addition to the amazing cuisine you will also find a very impressive wine list. I have been several times to the Water Grill and I can tell you it’s constantly delicious. Come with deep pockets. Seafood is never cheap!
