You would think if a restaurant is busy, it means that it’s good. Not so in this case. Saturday night my companion and I decided to strut down Ventura Blvd, in Studio City, to find a place to eat. We arrived at Sparks Woodfire Grill and were told there would be a 45 minute wait for a table. So we put our name on the list and walked up a few blocks to have a cocktail at a place called the Wine Bistro.
The Wine Bistro wasn’t too crowded. I suppose the prices had something to do with it. They’re a tad too expensive. We settled in at the bar and ordered some sexy dirty martinis and the duck paté, which was sensational. The flavors were delicate and the texture smooth, a wonderful partner to our dirty martinis.
After another round of martinis, we walked back to Sparks and ordered a pizza that was half goat cheese and ham, and half arugula and prosciutto. We also ordered a Cobb salad. We were very disappointed. The food was crap. The pizza tasted like cardboard with cheese and the salad didn’t have very much substance.
In general, beware of wood fire grill restaurants. If the pizza’s terrible, then you are in for trouble. The staple product of a wood fire grill (pizza) should be nice.
