Hidden in a cluster of shops on quaint Montana Boulevard in Santa Monica, is Lacando Portofino. You would never know this intimate gem of a Tuscan, Italian restaurant was there unless you were looking for it. Their food is fresh, simple and tasty.
I started with the Alici Fritte (fried sardines), which have a salty, savory combination of flavors that will make her smile. For the main course, I had the special, a zesty veal meatball pasta with a Bolognese sauce. The sweets were just ok, but the wine was wonderful.
The waitstaff are imported Italian lads who are lookers. If you aren't secure with yourself, you might not want to have your first date here. You don't want her gazing longer at the waiter than at you.
Overall, the food was great and the service on point. Locanda Portofino is a sexy eatery and one of the better Italian restaurants in Los Angeles.
